Reckless by Elsie Silver: FAQs + Books Like It

After having read the first three books in the Chestnut Springs series in just under a week and half, I figured I should take a break. Unfortunately, I found myself colossally disappointed by the two books I picked up and wrote them off as DNFs. With that I ran back to Chestnut Springs with my tail between my legs. All I wanted was a good, solid romance and Elsie Silver delivered. Reckless was another massive hit in my books. (Kindle | Paperback)

What Is the Book Reckless by Elsie Silver About?

Reckless is a secret baby, neighbors-to-lovers, second chance, small-town romance about the young professional bullrider, Theo Silva, and the emergency room doctor, Winter Hamilton. Here is the official description of the book:

"Theo Silva. Rowdy bull rider. Notorious ladies’ man. Scorching hot trouble wrapped up in a drool-worthy package. And he’s looking at me like I might be his next meal. But I’m almost free of my toxic marriage and have sworn off men entirely. So all I see when I look back is temptation served up with a heaping side of heartbreak. The man is hard to trust -and even harder to resist. Make that impossible. Because Theo is persistent. And no matter how hard I try to freeze him out, he melts my icy exterior and pulls apart all my defenses. Over a drink in a small town bar, I blurt out my deepest, darkest secrets. Then I spend the singular hottest night of my life with him. He worships my body. He makes me blush. I come alive beneath his hands. Then I tell him to forget it ever happened. 1. Flawless (Rhett and Summer)

  2. Heartless (Cade and Willa)

Does Reckless Have a Happy Ending?

Yes - Reckless has a happy ending! After Winter's ex-husband, Rob Valentine, serves her with papers demanding a paternity test, Theo questions whether or not she is sure he is the father. Theo immediately regrets his reaction and tries to cool off by shutting off his phone and going to bed. Since this means Winter cannot get ahold of him, she boards a plane with Vivi and Peter to reconcile with Theo in person, which they do almost immediately after she shows up at his hotel. A short while later, they receive confirmation of what they already know - Vivi is Theo's daughter. To celebrate this, Winter gifts Theo papers stating that Vivi's name is now Vivienne Silva. At Vivi's first birthday party, Winter's father arrives to apologize and deliver Vivi the dollhouse Winter thought her mother threw out. To make the party even better, Theo and Winter get engaged.

In the epilogue, we find out that Theo has won the WBRF championship and Winter took a job as a tour doctor so they could all travel together. We also find out Theo and Winter are expecting another child.

5 Books Like Reckless by Elsie Silver

If you're like me, you might feeling a Reckless-sized hole in your heart. While it's hard to beat, the good news is that there are definitely more books like Reckless out there. In fact, here's my top five recommendations for similar with the secret baby trope.

Tattered by Devney Perry

1. Tattered by Devney Perry

It's surprisingly difficult to find other books with the secret baby and small-town trope combo. Alas, I found one solid contender in Tattered by Devney Perry. Here's what it's about: "Thea Landry has always known her place. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been glamorous. So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not geting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again. Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything upside down. This time around, she’s going to fight to keep him in her life - not for herself. But for their daughter."

The Goal by Elle Kennedy

2. The Goal by Elle Kennedy

While the baby isn't exactly secret in The Goal by Elle Kennedy, it is similar to Reckless in that it's a second chance romance that comes out of a one-night stand. Plus, it's a spicy sports romance! Here's the description: College senior Sabrina James has her whole future planned out: graduate college, go to law school, and land a high-paying job at a cutthroat firm. Her path to escaping her shameful past certainly doesn’t include a gorgeous hockey player who believes in love at first sight. One night of sizzling heat and surprising tenderness is all she’s willing to give John Tucker, but sometimes, one night is all it takes for your entire life to change. On the ice, Tucker is fine staying out of the spotlight, but when it comes to becoming a daddy at the age of 22, he refuses to be a bench warmer. It doesn’t hurt that the soon-to-be mother of his child is beautiful, whip-smart, and keeps him on his toes. The problem is, Sabrina’s heart is locked up tight and is too stubborn to accept his help. If he wants a life with the woman of his dreams, he’ll have to convince her that some goals can only be made with an assist."

Thrown Down by Tessa Bailey

3. Thrown Down by Tessa Bailey

If there's one author you can always trust to deliver a swoon-worthy, spicy romance, it's Tessa Bailey. So, when I found out Thrown Down was a secret baby romance like Reckless, I knew it had to be on this list. Here's what it's about: "Overachiever River Purcell was never supposed to be a struggling single mom, working double shifts just to make ends meet. Nor was she supposed to be abandoned by her high school sweetheart, breaking her heart into a thousand jagged pieces. Now Vaughn De Matteo is back in town, his sights set on her...and River is in danger of drowning a second time. No one believed Hook's resident bad boy was good enough for River. Not even Vaughn himself. But he'll fight like hell to win back the woman he never stopped loving, to keep the daughter he never expected, and convince himself he's worth their love in the process--even if he has to rely on their fierce and undeniable sexual chemistry."

The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata

4. The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata

Is The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata like Reckless in that both are about a secret baby? Yes. However, before you pick it up, you should know that like all Mariana Zapata romance's, this book is an extremely long slow-burn and has minimal spice. If you're okay with that, then here's D.L. Howe's description of it: "You take a smack talker, a curmudgeonly cinnamon roll, an adorable chubby baby and a sweetheart of a New Zealander and together you get a magical story that never failed to crack me up and maybe shed a tear or two. Lennie runs the family MMA gym where she deals with a bunch of meatheads. It’s just another day until a person from her past shows up in her office. That stranger is a pro rugby player from New Zealand whom she had a short love affair when he got injured and up and disappeared. Now Jonah wants to make amends but Lennie has a bomb to drop on him. If he had returned any of her calls, texts or emails he’d know he’s the father of a little bundle of precious joy."

One Moment Please by Amy Daws

5. One Moment Please by Amy Daws

Last but not least on the list of books like Reckless is One Moment Please by Amy Daws, which is another "surprise" baby after a one-night stand. Here's what it's about: "That awkward moment when an ER doctor has to inform you that you’re pregnant…with his baby. Three things Lynsey Jones knows about the hot doctor: he’s grouchy, an arrogant jerk, and strangely obsessed with pie. Three things Dr. Dick knows: he doesn’t talk about his past, he doesn’t do relationships, and the crazy girl in the hospital cafeteria who ate a fistful of French silk pie…is annoyingly irresistible. After a chance meetup at a bar and a heated cab ride together, things come to a head and now instead of hating each other, they’re horizontal in a bed. Three months later, the weird cafeteria stalker who crept out of Dr. Dick’s house like a thief in the night, winds up as his patient in the ER after her Tinder date from hell. Dr. Dick is prepared to keep it cool and professional. That is until her bloodwork reveals that she’s pregnant. What really throws him for a loop…is that the surprise baby…is his."
